How to Enjoy the Tybee Island Pirate Fest

Everyone knows that pirates boast the best crew of chefs. The Buccaneer Ball at Crab Shack is the kick-off to the festivities ahead, with fantastic grog and grub guaranteed at this island staple. The Pirate King and Queen are also sashed on day one, signifying who reigns over all of you scallywags.

Although not an official Tybee Pirate Fest event, be sure to enjoy the Carnival at Hotel Tybee, Oct. 8-11, for a fun addition to an extended island weekend.

Gather your crew for the 2026 Cape Fear Rum Pirate Pub Crawl on Friday, Oct. 9. Beginning at 1 p.m., pirate hosts will lead the way to six or more participating island bars. Tickets are $20 and include the guided crawl, plus an exclusive event T-shirt when you register online by Sept. 25. Complete your crawl card for a chance to win one of two treasure chests filled with $500 worth of prizes.

Once the festival grounds open, there’s no shortage of entertainment to keep your crew occupied. Catch live music, Tybee Mermaid Water Shows and plenty of pirate antics throughout the weekend. Little Matey’s Cove keeps younger scallywags entertained with magic shows, face painting, games and crafts, while Saturday brings the annual pirate parade and costume contests.

Channel your inner Jack Sparrow with some dashing poet shirts and petticoat breeches. We wouldn't want to disappoint a true buccaneer with our lackluster attire. Let's not test the waters - be sure to dress to impress. And let's be honest, who doesn't love playing dress-up on the high seas?
