Director Joe Dante, writer Chris Columbus, and executive producer Steven Spielberg combine their respective wizardry to tell a cozy story about a Rockwellian small town overrun by huggable terror.
A gadget salesman is looking for a special Christmas gift for his son and finds a mystical Chinese creature known as a "mogwai" named Gizmo at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is reluctant, but he sells him Gizmo with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. All of this happens, and the result is a gang of mischievous gremlins that decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve.
The genius of Gremlins is its ability to spawn feelings of shock and awe. Gizmo is every kid’s dream gift, but the little guy’s side effects are a nightmare for the ages. They’re far, far worse than a BB to the eye. And there's far more naughtiness than niceness on display in this 1984 holiday horror comedy. Rated PG
