Big-budget filmmakers have been featuring Tybee Island in their movies for some time now. How many of these have you seen?
Spongebob filmed his second feature film on Tybee during the late summer and early fall months of 2013. Locals were featured as extras, and sightings of such household celebrities as Antonio Banderas were not uncommon. Nearby downtown Savannah was also featured in the finished product. Hopeless romantics rejoiced when Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth and Greg Kinnear arrived on set to create the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ book, The Last Song. From June through August 2009, cast and crew could be spotted everywhere from downtown Savannah to Tybee Island. Many locals and tourists alike got their 15 minutes of fame in the background of the scenes!
