From decking the halls to ringing in the new year, these Tybee Island events are the best way to get in the holiday spirit. So, grab your friends and family, take your eggnog to-go and head to these festive island happenings!
Witness the lighting of the enormous Christmas tree in the center of downtown Tybee Island at this celebration of lights! The beloved ceremony will feature a singalong led by the Tybee Arts Association‘s Performing Society, caroling outside of the historic Carbo House and performances by the Gretchen Greene School of Dance. Then, help welcome Santa to our island and enjoy complimentary refreshments throughout downtown Tybee during the evening celebrations.
WHEN: December 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
WHERE: Tybrisa Roundabout
This yearly tradition celebrates the island’s small town charm. Follow the lively parade through downtown Tybee Island and all the way to the Tybee YMCA. Children can have their photos taken with island Santa Claus, enjoy holiday-themed snacks and play lots of reindeer games.
WHEN: December 3 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

See what local artists have to offer and check some gifts off your holiday list at this annual marketplace. Vendors will have unique gifts including pottery, vintage jewelry, art prints, driftwood furniture, fossils, dog treats, local honey, handmade soaps, sweet tea mixers, soy-based candles and so much more.

Travel back through time and experience the sights and customs of Christmas at Tybee Island’s lighthouse in the days of our last lighthouse keeper and his family. This quaint depiction of holiday cheer in the 1930s and 40s illustrates the traditions of a simpler time for this military families of Fort Screven. Enjoy seeing the island’s twinkling lights from the top of the lighthouse, carols, hot cider and the joy of the season by the warm glow of candlelight. Watch as dozens of festive boats show off their lights and decorations at the Crab Shack‘s many docks! Enjoy a free hot dog and chili bar when you bring a canned food donation for America’s Second Harvest Food Drive. The boats will set sail on their scenic promenade throughout Tybee Island’s coastal waterways for all to see, and will return once again to display their masterpieces!

The 17th annual Polar Plunge is a quirky tradition held every New Year’s Day at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. Join more than 1,000 brave souls as they plunge into the chilly Atlantic at noon. And don’t miss the Gang of Goofs contest at 11 a.m. – you can watch dozens of fun-loving gangs sporting wacky costumes parade in front of celebrity judges. It’s a happy-go-lucky way to start 2017!
